Tooth Extractions

If one of your teeth becomes impacted, infected, or damaged beyond repair, our dentist, Dr. K. Jordan Willison, DMD, MBA, may recommend a tooth extraction to effectively restore your smile to its ideal health or to remove a problematic tooth, like a wisdom tooth. While we always work first to protect your natural teeth, we also realize that an extraction may be necessary at times. At The Dentist in El Paso, we strive to provide you with the most comfortable dental experience possible.

At The Dentist, we will first try to repair your tooth with a crown, filling or other treatment. If you have teeth that have been damaged by severe decay or broken, sometimes there is too much damage for the tooth to be repaired with traditional dentistry and it needs to be removed. If you have a very loose tooth as a result of poor oral health or an injury, it may also require a tooth extraction.

Wisdom Teeth
If you do not have enough room in your mouth for your third molars to fully erupt, a number of problems can happen. Wisdom teeth that are impacted should be removed before their root structure is fully developed and more difficult to remove. Some patients may have to have their wisdom teeth removed at age12 or 13, while others may not be affected until their early twenties. Problems with wisdom teeth may also occur with increasing frequency after the age of 30.

Problems related to wisdom teeth include:

  • Infection
  • Cyst Formation
  • Dental Crowding
  • Damage to Adjacent Teeth
  • Build up of bacteria
